Stainless Steel 904L Round Bar, is a low carbon high alloy austenitic stainless steel round bar. It is broadly used in application where corrosion properties are not adequate. By addition of copper provide corrosion resistant feature. It is superior to the chrome nickel round bars mainly in acetic, sulfuric, phosphoric and acid.
However there is limited use with hydrochloric acid. It even has high pitting resistance in chloride solutions. It has high resistance to both crevice and stress corrosion cracking.
Due to its higher alloying of nickel and molybdenum it performs better than other austenitic stainless steels.
It is non-magnetic in all environment and has excellent formability and weldability. The austenitic structure also provides excellent toughness even down to cryogenic temperatures.
Stainless Steel 904L has high chromium element which maintain a passive feature which protect it in various different corrosive environment.
It has high resistance to precipitation of ferrite and sigma phases on cooling and welding compare to other stainless steels containing molybdenum. Due to the low carbon content there is no risk of intercrystalline corrosion on cooling or welding. Its maximum service temperature is at 450°C.
