Product Overview

Om Export India Pvt Ltd is a premier manufacturer, stockist, and global supplier of high-integrity Stainless Steel 316L Pipes and Tubes (ASTM A312 TP316L / UNS S31603 / Werkstoff 1.4404). Grade 316L is the low-carbon modification of molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel, containing 16.0% to 18.0% Chromium, 10.0% to 14.0% Nickel, 2.0% to 3.0% Molybdenum, and a strictly restricted maximum Carbon content of 0.030%. This chemistry prevents chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding, granting immunity to intergranular corrosion in the as-welded condition without requiring post-weld solution annealing.

Widely preferred for marine and severe chemical process piping, our SS 316L seamless, ERW, and EFW pipes are manufactured strictly to ASTM A312, ASTM A213, and ASME Section II standards. Operating with a density of 8.00 g/cm³ and offering reliable performance from cryogenic temperatures (-196°C) up to continuous service at 800°F (425°C) and intermittent oxidation resistance up to 1950°F (1065°C), our SS 316L piping systems deliver high pitting resistance (PREN ≥ 23–25) and structural reliability across offshore seawater circuits, chemical processing, dyeing equipment, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and marine engineering.

  • Intergranular Corrosion Immunity: Ultra-low carbon chemistry (≤ 0.030% C) eliminates carbide sensitization in heat-affected zones during field welding.
  • Chloride & Marine Atmosphere Resistance: 2.0%–3.0% Molybdenum content provides protection against localized pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-rich media.
  • Broad Structural Range & Finishes: Supplied in cold-drawn seamless, fusion-welded ERW/EFW, bright annealed (BA), electropolished, and 600 Grit mirror-polished finishes.

Key Features

  • Immunity to Sensitization: Restricting carbon to ≤ 0.030% prevents intergranular corrosion in welded zones.
  • Chloride Pitting Protection: 2%–3% Molybdenum delivers high resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.
  • Cryogenic Toughness: Retains non-magnetic austenitic ductility and high Charpy impact strength down to cryogenic temperatures (-196°C).
  • Sanitary Surface Smoothness: Available with bright annealed (BA) and mechanical/electropolished mirror finishes (Ra ≤ 0.4 µm) for pharmaceutical compliance.
  • Formability & Ductility: High elongation (≥40%) permits tight flanging, expanding, cold drawing, and coiling operations.
  • Weld Reliability: Easily welded via TIG, MIG, and SAW using matching AWS ER316L or E316L filler wire without cracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is the main difference between SS 316 and SS 316L pipes?
The primary difference is the carbon concentration: SS 316 allows up to 0.08% Carbon, while SS 316L restricts Carbon to a maximum of 0.030%. The ultra-low carbon level in 316L prevents grain boundary chromium carbide sensitization during welding, making 316L the preferred choice for welded process piping without post-weld solution annealing.

Q2: Why is SS 316L suitable for marine and chloride-heavy applications?
The inclusion of 2.0% to 3.0% Molybdenum enhances resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-bearing environments, saline waters, and marine atmospheric conditions compared to standard 304/304L stainless steels.

Q3: How does cold rolling improve the performance of 1.4404 / 316L pipes?
Cold rolling and bright annealing refine the grain structure, boost mechanical tensile and yield strength, achieve tighter wall thickness tolerances, and produce an ultra-smooth internal and external surface that minimizes fouling and enhances fluid flow efficiency.

Q4: What testing certificates are supplied with ASTM A312 TP316L pipes?
All orders are shipped with EN 10204 Type 3.1 / 3.2 Material Test Certificates, IBR Form III-D / III-A statutory documents, 100% Positive Material Identification (PMI) spectro reports, ASTM A262 Practice E intergranular corrosion tests, and 100% Hydrostatic / Eddy Current test certificates.
