Product Overview

Om Export India Pvt Ltd is a premier manufacturer, stockist, and global exporter of high-strength Stainless Steel 410 Pipes and Tubes (ASTM A312 TP410 / UNS S41000 / Werkstoff 1.4006). Grade 410 is a general-purpose 11.5% to 13.5% Chromium martensitic stainless steel engineered specifically for industrial engineering applications that demand high mechanical yield strength, superior hardness, and exceptional wear and abrasion resistance combined with moderate corrosion resistance.

Unlike standard austenitic stainless steels, Grade 410 is ferromagnetic under all conditions and can be heat treated via air or oil quenching from 925°C–1010°C (1700°F–1850°F) followed by tempering to achieve tailored hardness levels from 200 HBW up to 450 HBW. Fully compliant with ASTM A312, ASTM A268, and ASME Section II pressure specifications, our SS 410 seamless and welded pipes provide continuous scaling and oxidation resistance up to 1200°F (650°C). These pipes and tubes are deployed across steam and gas turbines, petroleum refining, pump shafts, valves, and mining abrasive slurries.

  • Heat-Treatable Martensitic Hardness: Can be quenched and tempered to obtain extreme yield strengths (≥ 275 MPa up to 600+ MPa) and high wear resistance.
  • Thermal Scaling Resistance: Maintains structural stability and resists surface scaling up to 1200°F (650°C) in continuous thermal operations.
  • Moderate Corrosion Defense: Resists atmospheric corrosion, potable water, mild acids, crude oils, and food products in the hardened and electropolished state.

Key Features

  • High Wear & Abrasion Resistance: High surface hardness mitigates frictional wear, mechanical galling, and solid particle erosion.
  • Heat-Treatable Versatility: Mechanical yield and tensile strength can be custom-tailored via controlled quenching and tempering cycles.
  • Thermal Scaling Durability: Resists continuous oxidation and scaling at temperatures up to 1200°F (650°C).
  • Magnetic Characteristic: Highly ferromagnetic in both annealed and hardened states, suitable for magnetic separation applications.
  • Lower Thermal Expansion: Lower thermal expansion coefficient compared to 300-series stainless steels, reducing thermal strain in heated piping loops.
  • Cost-Effective Strength: Nickel-free/low-nickel matrix provides an economical alternative for high-strength pressure applications without severe chemical attack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is the main metallurgical difference between SS 410 and austenitic SS 304/316?
Stainless Steel 410 is a martensitic stainless steel with a body-centered tetragonal/cubic crystal structure, making it ferromagnetic and heat-treatable to high tensile strengths and hardnesses. In contrast, 304 and 316 are austenitic, non-hardenable by heat treatment, non-magnetic, and provide significantly higher aqueous and acid corrosion resistance.

Q2: How can the maximum corrosion resistance of Stainless Steel 410 pipes be achieved?
Maximum corrosion resistance is obtained when SS 410 is hardened by quenching from 925°C–1010°C, tempered (avoiding the 400°C–600°C temper embrittlement zone), and polished or electropolished to produce a smooth, oxide-free surface.

Q3: Can SS 410 pipes be welded easily?
Due to its high hardenability, SS 410 has a strong tendency to form brittle martensite in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) during welding. To prevent cold cracking, preheating to 200°C–260°C (400°F–500°F) is required, followed by post-weld heat treatment (annealing or subcritical tempering at 650°C–760°C).

Q4: What certifications accompany Om Export India Pvt Ltd SS 410 pipes?
All orders include EN 10204 Type 3.1 / 3.2 Material Test Certificates, heat-treatment condition charts (Annealed or Q&T), 100% Positive Material Identification (PMI) spectro reports, and 100% Hydrostatic / Ultrasonic test records.
